In the eye of the beholder

I am back, after a long sabbatical from this blog. It really has been way too long. Why is it that this like some sort of illness for most bloggers, to disappear from their blogs and return months later. I don't blame the followers who stop following...

I recently took a photo of the right side of my own face...yes, not very interesting, but man was it hard to do. I was practising different photo's in different light positions outside of our house, in one of what I call my practise photo shoots. I can't really say what I was going for here, but I like the light distribution and the detail captured in the photo, you can even see the outline of my contact lens if you know what you're looking for.

On a side note: I sure am happy I decided to pluck my eyebrows that day!
Until my next post, happy snapping*

mew, mew, mew!

We have a new addition to the family, I must admit to not mentioning her to any of my blogging friends in the last few weeks....sorry :)

Her name is Geza, but we actually just call her Kat (the Afrikaans version for Cat). She is the cutest thing and I cannot get over the weird alien noises she makes when she whizzes past us, prancing on all four paws. Really, it is a sight to behold and has me cracking up in laughter almost every time.

My MIL got her about 2 months back and her growth rate is amazingly fast. She's gone from cute kitten to brazen teen in mere weeks and it is a battle to keep her from climbing the curtains...

Blessedly she gets along well with miss Jenga (our cute faced pekingnese). Granted, they chase each other all over the house while they play, but it is all in good fun and they thoroughly enjoy each other's company. What good little children they are.

I do realise that my toes are making another appearance on this blog, it seems they are attention hoggers. I will have to make sure they coordinate better with Kat's ginger hue next time they decide to make an appearance.

A Happy dog and my pink nail polish

I am not scared of being in a photograph, I am scarily in love with photo's. And not because I am vain (ok, maybe just a little?). I am obsessed with documenting life and utilising my mad paper skills to create scrapbooks to look back on. See my crafting blog if you don't believe me.

I love family photographs and I wish I had more willing subjects... my husband is the only one who really tolerates my photographing hobby (obsession) with gusto.

It's at times like these that I just have to turn to my trusty sidekick for a photo filled with awesomness, you know...pink toes and all.

Summer time, and the living is easy*

I really don't like getting cold, my family will concur. I shiver at the touch of the slightest breeze or the inkling of an earlier winter. Really. I do. This is why I L.O.V.E Summer. Hot sun shiny days, sparkling swimming pools and braais outside on the stoep. Yes. I Love my summers :) What could be better than this?

Hail storms

Last week Thursday we had a massive hail storm in our area. Our poor dogs, poor cars, poor trees, poor roses.

Thankfully the big dogs outside have dog houses to hide in, and I brought Jenga inside (yes, spoilt brat. she does have her own dog house outside too).

I had brought my FIL home from the hospital that day, we sat and watched the hail fall in amazement. Of course, I had to capture it all on camera. Not very professional looking, but who's gonna complain anyway, it's the fantastic hailstorm that counts right?

Light Practise

Remember our trip to the theatre? And my 'weird' bench photo's that hubby couldn't understand? Well, I did take two other photo's that hubby didn't get either...I must be weird.

He has these really cool sunglasses, I bought them for him so natrually they are awesome! But that is besides the point here. They were lying on the table where we sitting outside and I had a brainwave! Yes, it is possible for happy chappy's to have brain waves, and very good ones at that.

My brainwave was to try and photograph his sunglasses, playing with depth and light. I don't know about you, but I love seeing a photo that has been overexposed and has light, literally filtering in from all sides. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Anyway, I took the photo from an angle, so that the glasses took up the whole right hand side of the frame, which left only the left hand side open for an abundance of light. The photo below was my first attempt.

Clearly, I have my depth right, but not the light exposure. It just looks like a pair of awesomly cool sunglasses that were bought by a camera happy chappy for her husband. So I tried again, this time I went in really close to the glasses, focused on them and 'pulled' back. It allowed the light to penetrate deeper into the frame because I had forced the camera to focus on the glasses before taking other factors in to account. This is what I came up with.

It is a much better attempt, but I have lots of practising to do yet. I also think we should clean the glasses a bit more next time...just sayin.

Pretty flowers and a naughty puppy....

...make for a lot of trouble.

Jenga, is our pekingnese puppy, we got her on the 9th of July at 8 weeks old. This makes her 18 weeks (4.5 months) on the day this photo was taken. Very cute looking. Innocent even. Lying down next to the pot of flowers.

But do not be decieved by the cunning of this little 'baby'. she is actually getting ready to pounce upon said flowers and devour them in their entirety!

Ok, so maybe she didn't devour them. She did eat a leaf though. A beautiful leaf. A leaf that could have lived out it's lifetime in the vase. For at least another week. sigh* Poor, poor Mr Leaf.
